About The Area

• Ouachita Parish - The parish bears the same name as the Quachita River which flows from southern Arkansas through northeastern Louisiana and divides Monroe and West Monroe. Other notable towns in Ouachita Parish are Calhoun, Sterlington, Brownsville-Bawcomville, Claiborne, Swartz and of course Monroe and West Monroe which are often referred to as the Twin Cities of northeast Louisiana.
• Monroe - A great place to live and raise a family, this humble city also has many attractions. Most notably the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo which maintains a population of over 500 animals. Monroe is also home to many museums, including the Northeast Louisiana Children's Museum, The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens, Aviation Military Museum, the Masur Museum of Arts, and the Northeast Louisiana Delta African-American Heritage Museum.
• West Monroe - Originally named Trenton, West Monroe is the second half of the Twin Cities of northeast Louisiana. Some famous West Monroe attractions include Antique Alley (5 blocks of over 50 antique stores), the Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras Parade, and numerous arts and crafts shows, car shows, outdoor sports (fishing, hiking, biking, etc).
• Calhoun - Calhoun is located west of Monroe off Highway 20. There are many lovely homes in this area but to the trained eye there is much more. many large plots of land are located in Calhoun. Great land for any real estate investor.
• Sterlington - The town of Sterlington, Louisiana is a great place to raise a family. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Sterlington is mostly suburban neighborhoods.
• Brownsville-Bawcomville - Located southwest of Monroe, life is Brownsville-Bawcomville is very affordable. The cost of living is 17.61% Lower than the national average and the median home cost is $55,290 according to a 2009 census.
• Claiborne - Not to be confused with Claiborne Parish, the Claiborne (CPD) area is one of Monroe's finest suburban neighborhoods. A home here might cost you more but it is worth it.
